Our Story
Before Terrarium Labs existed, there was a mountain village in Himachal Pradesh.
For more than four years, my wife and I lived among forests, rivers, snow-covered peaks and landscapes that seemed untouched by time. Life moved differently there. Seasons weren’t something you followed on a calendar. You felt them.
The scent of pine after rain.
The first signs of winter in the air.
Wildflowers pushing through rocky soil.
The silence of a valley at sunrise.
Nature wasn’t something special or exotic. It was simply part of everyday life.
Living there changed the way we saw the world.

When we eventually returned to the city, the contrast was hard to ignore. Trees disappeared to make room for new buildings. Open spaces became parking lots. Wetlands became construction sites. Every year there seemed to be a little less green and a little more concrete.
Cities grow. They have to. People need homes, jobs and opportunities.
But after spending years in the mountains, we found ourselves noticing what was disappearing as often as what was being built.
What stayed with us from those years wasn’t just the beauty of the landscape. It was the feeling of belonging to it.
We often talk about nature as though it exists somewhere else – in forests, mountains and places we visit when we need a break from everyday life.
But nature isn’t somewhere else.
We’re part of it.
Always have been.
Terrarium Labs grew from that simple belief.
Not out of a desire to recreate nature indoors. Nothing could replace a forest, a river or a mountain valley.
What fascinated us was something smaller.
A terrarium is its own little ecosystem. Plants, moss, soil, water and light, all existing in relationship with one another. A reminder that even the smallest living worlds depend on balance, care and connection.
And perhaps that’s why people are drawn to them.
Not because they’re decorative objects, but because they bring a little bit of life closer to us.

That’s what Terrarium Labs has always been about.
Meet the Founder
“I’ve always believed that nature isn’t something we visit occasionally. It’s something we live within, whether we notice it or not. After spending four years in Himachal Pradesh, surrounded by forests, rivers and mountain landscapes, I returned to city life with a deeper appreciation for the natural world and for the small ways we can keep that connection alive in our everyday lives. Terrarium Labs grew from that experience.”
And then there’s Nemo.
Some of you may know him from my poetry. Here at Terrarium Labs, he serves as our Chief Quality Inspector and occasional supervisor of terrarium projects. He has an eye for detail, a deep appreciation for sunny spots, and an uncanny ability to appear precisely when fresh moss, new plants, or an open cardboard box enters the room.
Thankfully, his compensation package consists entirely of treats and admiration.
