INTRODUCTION

There is something rather satisfying about starting with an empty glass container.

A little soil goes in. Then a stone moves three times because somehow it doesn't look right. A piece of wood finds its place. Some moss, a tiny plant or two and, slowly, something begins to happen.

A little landscape appears.

Our terrarium workshops in Kolkata are designed for anyone curious about these miniature ecosystems. You don't need gardening experience, expensive tools or even a particularly green thumb.

Honestly, curiosity is quite enough.

At Terrarium Labs, we'll take you through the entire process, from understanding how a terrarium works to choosing plants, preparing the substrate, arranging hardscape and finally creating your own miniature landscape.

And the best part?

The terrarium you make goes home with you.

WHAT YOU'LL LEARN

Chosing The Right Plants

Learn which plants thrive inside terrariums and why some combinations work better than others.

Designing with Hardscape

Discover how rocks, spiderwood, gravel and natural materials can transform an ordinary container into a miniature landscape.

Understanding Moss

Learn how to choose, position and maintain different terrarium mosses and how to store for future use.

Building the Substrate

We'll explain drainage, charcoal, sphagnum moss and substrate rather than simply asking you to copy layers.

Planting & Composition

Learn how to position plants, create depth and leave enough room for your little landscape to grow and the importance of negative space.

Long-Term Care

Watering, condensation, lighting, pruning and what to do when your terrarium starts behaving strangely. The most mportant part.

That last part is important. Making a terrarium takes a couple of hours. Keeping it beautiful is where knowledge matters.

HOW THE WORKSHOP FLOWS

01 — Understand

We'll begin with the basics of how a closed terrarium becomes a miniature ecosystem.

02 — Design

Choose your plants, stones, wood and layout.

03 — Create

Now comes the fun part. Build your terrarium with our guidance.

04 — Take It Home

Leave with your own handcrafted ecosystem and the knowledge to look after it.

This Isn't Really a Gardening Class

At least, we don't like to think of it that way.

It's a couple of hours away from screens, notifications and everyday rush.

You work with your hands. Touch soil. Examine a piece of moss more carefully than you probably have in years. Decide whether a rock looks better facing left or right.

Somewhere along the way, the outside world becomes a little quieter.

Come alone.

Come with a friend.

Bring your partner.

Bring your child.

Or simply come because you've always wondered how those tiny forests inside glass are made.

By the end of the session, you'll have made one yourself.

A Lovely Way to Introduce Children to Nature

A terrarium is a surprisingly good teacher.

Children begin asking questions.

Why does water appear on the glass?

Why does moss need humidity?

Why can't we put a cactus inside?

Where does the water go?

Building one together turns those questions into an introduction to ecosystems, plants, the water cycle and responsible care for living things.

Parent + child participation is welcome at selected workshops.

FAQ

Do I need any gardening experience?

Not at all. Our workshops are designed so complete beginners can participate comfortably.

Do I need to bring anything?

No. Plants, moss, substrate, glass containers, hardscape materials and tools required during the workshop are provided.

Can I take my terrarium home?

Of course. The terrarium you build during the session is yours.

Can children attend?

Children can attend selected workshops. We recommend checking the age requirement mentioned for each session.

How many people attend?

We deliberately keep our workshops small so everyone receives personal guidance.

What should I wear?

Something comfortable. Terrarium building isn’t particularly messy, but you will be working with soil, moss and plants.

Can I cancel my booking?

Workshop fees are non-refundable. However, if you inform us at least 48 hours before the workshop, we can transfer your booking once to another available Terrarium Labs workshop.

What if Terrarium Labs cancels the workshop?

If we need to cancel or reschedule a workshop, participants may choose another available date or receive a full refund.
