Our Black Lava Chips – 2–3 mm are fine-grade natural volcanic material with a porous, rugged texture and deep charcoal-black appearance. Their small particle size makes them particularly useful where a finer, more detailed substrate or finishing layer is required.

In terrariums and paludariums, lava chips can be incorporated into drainage and substrate systems or used decoratively around rocks, wood and planting areas.

For aquascaping and planted aquariums, their dark natural appearance complements aquatic plants, stone and driftwood beautifully and can be used to add texture and detail to hardscape compositions.

Their porous structure also makes lava chips useful as a component in growing media for bonsai, succulents, cacti and other plants requiring an open, well-draining substrate.
