Nepenthes ampullaria x Viking Red is a striking carnivorous hybrid combining the compact, urn-shaped pitchers of ampullaria with the deep, rich red coloring of Viking Red, a bold addition to any carnivorous plant collection.
- Light: Needs bright, indirect light for several hours daily to bring out its deep red pitcher color. Gentle morning sun is fine, but avoid intense midday direct sun.
- Moisture: Keep the growing medium consistently moist, never fully dry. Use distilled, rain, or reverse osmosis water to avoid mineral buildup from tap water.
- Humidity: Thrives at high humidity, ideally 60-80%, making terrariums, greenhouses, or humidity domes well suited to its needs.
- Potting medium: Use a low-nutrient, well-draining mix such as sphagnum moss combined with perlite and orchid bark. Avoid regular potting soil or fertilizer in the mix.
- Feeding: Its pitchers catch insects naturally and this variety also thrives partly on leaf litter, no manual feeding required indoors under normal conditions.
- Temperature: Prefers warm, stable conditions between 20-30°C, away from cold drafts.
